Gunn’s Camp is a great base for hunting, fishing, walking and tramping. 

Fishing – enjoy superb fishing on the Hollyford River.

Hunting – make the most of this isolated location, this is a great spot for hunting red deer.

Walking and Tramping – there are many day walks suitable for the whole family, including:

For the more serious tramper, Gunn’s Camp is an ideal location for the Hollyford and Routeburn Tracks and is close to the Milford Track.

The Hump Ridge Track is a great three day loop in south west Fiordland.

Enjoy nature

Gunn’s Camp is located in a spectacular setting.  Surrounded by tall mountains and beautiful forest, the camp is only one hour’s drive from Milford Sound.

Bird watching – enjoy the antics of juvenile kaka (native parrot) at the Camp from November to January.  There are many opportunities for bird watching in this area.  Listen out for the beautiful melodies of the tui and bellbird.

Glow-worms – make sure to see the glow –worm grotto in the evening as the sun goes down. Nature’s own little light show!

Humbolt waterfalls – travel to the end of the unsealed Hollyford Road, where this well graded track takes you on a short climb through rainforest to the lookout of the impressive Humboldt Falls. The track takes about 30 minutes return.

Silver Beech – check out where we once had the widest Silver Beech tree in New Zealand! Although it has now fallen, you can still see the enormous base.
